Sunshine Coast Home Care Volunteer Programs

Our Volunteer Programs that are running include; Volunteer Driver’s, Meals on Wheels, Telephone Tree and the Volunteer Income Tax Service.

Meals on Wheels: Volunteers deliver nutritious dinner meals to residents who are homebound or find it difficult to prepare meals. These can be delivered up to three times a week in the Sechelt/Halfmoon Bay area and up to four times a week in the Gibsons/Roberts Creek area. There is a meal charge for this service of $7.70 per meal, and 24 hour notice of cancellation is required.

Volunteer Driver’s Program is for Medical appointments only, the program is available to those who are unable to access other forms of transport such as private, public, handidart or taxi services, clients must be capable of transferring themselves to and from vehicles and walking into the appointments. There is a charge for km driven, meal for the driver (if trip to Vancouver), parking and reservations. Volunteer Driver’s will NOT use a client’s car. Notice is required especially for Vancouver trips and all trips are subject to the availability of volunteers.

Telephone Tree: This volunteer service offers a daily, friendly, reassuring phone call. It is available to residents who live alone and would benefit from social contact.

Volunteer Income Tax: Volunteers prepare your income tax return for free. Clients must meet certain eligibility requirements based on income and simplicity of tax return.

We currently have the capacity to take new clients. Also, if you would like to volunteer or know of anyone who would like to assist with any of these programs, please contact us at 604-885-8517 or scvolunteer@vch.ca Tuesday to Friday, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
