Aphasia is NOT a result of hearing loss, intellectual deficit or muscle weakness affecting speech production

WHAT is the Community Aphasia Group?

The Community Aphasia Group is for people with aphasia to build confidence and practice communication strategies in a friendly, supported setting. Each session has focused tasks to help participants work on individual goals and improve their communication skills.

Developed by GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre and the Heart and Stroke Foundation, groups will be run by trained volunteers and supported by a TIDES Rehabilitation Assistant. All groups will be supervised by the TIDES Speech Language Pathologist.

WHO is the group for?

Participants with aphasia may have difficulties with expression (speaking, writing) or comprehension (understanding, reading). Participants must be motivated to improve their communication skills, able to participate in a group and be able to understand simple questions and statements.

WHEN and WHERE will it take place?

The group will take place at the VCH Home Health office located at 5630 Inlet Avenue, Sechelt. Sessions will be weekly from 10:30-11:30am on Thursday mornings. Participants must have their own transportation to and from the group.
